Wundersaltz

  • We call them Wundersaltz, but Epsom salts got their name from the town where they were first discovered in Epsom, England. They are a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulphate.  Magnesium sulphate can help the body regulate over 325 enzymes and helps in functions such as energy production, electrical impulses, and elimination of harmful toxins. Over the years, our society has experienced an increase in individuals that are magnesium deficient.  This problem has arisen mainly from the changes we have made in our diet along with changes in our industrial farming practices. Magnesium deficiency helps to account for higher rates of arthritis, heart disease, hypertension, joint pain, and chronic fatigue. Research has shown that exercise induces a redistribution of magnesium in the body to accommodate metabolic needs. There is evidence that magnesium deficiency impairs exercise performance and amplifies the negative consequences of strenuous exercise.

  • To experience the numerous health benefits of magnesium sulphate, take relaxing, stress-relieving Wundersaltz baths three times weekly by adding 2 cups of Wundersaltz to a warm bath and soaking for at least 12-20 minutes. Do not use soap, as it will interfere with the action of the salts. Try and rest for about two hours afterwards.  If you have arthritic joints move them as much as possible after a salt bath to prevent congestion in the joints. A magnesium sulphate bath is known to ease pain and relieve inflammation, making it beneficial in the treatment of sore muscles, bronchial asthma and migraine headaches. In addition, it has been known to heal cuts and reduce soreness from childbirth.
As a footbath, pamper fatigued feet by adding 1/2 cup of Wundersaltz to a basin of warm water. Relax and soak feet for 20 minutes. If you like, rub away any calluses using a pumice stone.
Soak feet to help relieve symptoms of Athlete’s Foot. To remove splinter, soak impacted skin in magnesium sulphate to help draw out the splinter.  Magnesium sulphate can be used to help relieve itching and burning skin by drawing out moisture caused by rashes. The salts may also help with swelling associated with mosquito bites and bee stings. Soak a cotton washcloth in magnesium sulphate (couple tablespoons per cup of cold water) and apply to skin.  To make a paste, add a few tablespoons of magnesium sulphate to a cup of hot water and stir until dissolved. Chill the mixture in refrigerator for 20 minutes and then apply to clean skin. If you are pregnant or have any health concerns, check with your doctor before using Wundersaltz.
