We call them Wundersaltz, but Epsom salts got their name from the town where they were first discovered in Epsom, England. They are a pure mineral compound of magnesium and sulphate. Magnesium sulphate can help the body regulate over 325 enzymes and helps in functions such as energy production, electrical impulses, and elimination of harmful toxins. Over the years, our society has experienced an increase in individuals that are magnesium deficient. This problem has arisen mainly from the changes we have made in our diet along with changes in our industrial farming practices. Magnesium deficiency helps to account for higher rates of arthritis, heart disease, hypertension, joint pain, and chronic fatigue. Research has shown that exercise induces a redistribution of magnesium in the body to accommodate metabolic needs. There is evidence that magnesium deficiency impairs exercise performance and amplifies the negative consequences of strenuous exercise.
